Cancer As A Social Activity: Affirmations of the World's End
by Michael IX Williams

The second edition of Mike's book will be released Sept. 8, 2008. This second edition will contain everything the first had with the edition of twelve post-Katrina writings, as well as an introduction to the new works. The first edition is completely sold out.

The much awaited first official collection of writings by notorious performer/songwriter Michael IX Williams, entitled "Cancer as a Social Activity" is now available through Southern Roots Publishing. The lyricist for New Orleans metal/punk legends EyehateGod, whose prolific recorded output has gained a mighty cult following since its inception in 1988, Mr. Williams has been long cited as "a decadent pioneer" and "a Hardcore blues prophet." The one true mouth of the disenfranchised underground scene. His fragmentary hallucinogenic outlook has been described as illegitimate coupling of the downtrodden gutter-life beauty of Charles Bukowski, crossed with William Burroughsian's cutup cerebral style. Survival is a key word here as battles with asthma, poverty, drugs, and law enforcement have only served to make him and his writing stronger.

Early chapbooks by Michael are much sought after by collectors of all strange literature and musical ephemera. Cancer is a truly important contribution out of the city that care forgot, New Orleans. A voice of the voiceless, Brutal realism metamorphosed into uncompromising ,startling images of gorgeous, wistful daily life. Long championed by dead end kids who KNOW, Williams is now prepared to to take on whatever the mainstream literary world has to offer.

About the author

A denizen of the interstate U.S. bus system, Michael IX Williams was born in High Point, North Carolina, pit stopping somewhere along the lines in New York City, and as of this writing, is currently living in New Orleans. Like a rat with nine lives; poverty, asthma, chemical abuse and run-ins with John Law led to fending off life's battles with a shrug and a gut punch to the torso of society. Survival lessons were taught uneasily, breathing life and reality into words only a mother could hate. Michael has been the vocalist for many punk and rock groups, most successfully with the band EyeHateGod and currently Arson Anthem and Outlaw Order. Formerly the Associate editor of Metal Maniacs, he occasionally writes for a number of underground Rock and Roll publications.
